Colours, textures, brioche, microns, lots of merino sheep, a touch of bling bling, various twists and some alpaca. Seed beads and lots and lots of speckles. All of this is just a sample of the tension of this adventure that turned four years old in August. Four intense years that have flown by and that we also want to share with you, who have woven this slow fashion story with us stitch by stitch.
If you don't know us, we are Carla and Ele, two super passionate knitters. The kind that never leave home without knitting needles. Like many of you, just to give you an idea! We both live in Puerto Varas and we met in knitting classes, but we felt very limited by the material available here. We got hooked and of course, intense as we are, we began to explore how to create quality material for our projects. Long story short, we packed our bags and headed to Peru to take a dyeing course.
Then came the stage of finding bases that suited our taste. In Punta Arenas we found our first base: a 100% Merino no superwash DK, ideal, and there was no turning back. We had nice wools, our knitting needles and too many ideas. So we didn't even realize when we were already dyeing our skeins in the laundry room at home. Soon we became partners, but each one tied to her profession, with families set up and very young children both. You can imagine the juggling to find the time to start dyeing in the name of Madejasur.
Although this was still a Friday morning hobby for us, there were many knitters interested in our products. As some of you may remember, we started by selling a small production through Instagram, with iconic colours, such as Wild Flamingo or Confetti. We invested in a website and, with the pandemic, Madejasur exploded. We are so proud of our business! First, because we are passionate about it, but also because it offers truly exclusive alternatives to our clients. We care about being pioneers in the selection of yarns and that both the quality and the finish and colour are exquisite. That is why our bases come from different places in the world and are such noble and varied blends.
Now, after four years of hard work, we are opening our own workshop for our brand. Here you can find luxurious yarns and truly exclusive accessories, but you can also attend knitting activities and even order custom colors. All you have to do is schedule your visit. We even have everything ready for the workshop that Pope Vergara will teach at Madejasur in January. And we are also planning how to show our proposal abroad. We would love to attend a fair like the Barcelona Knits Festival, for example. We want that and to continue learning, growing precisely for you, who have accompanied us in every knitting and who enjoy these yarns dyed with so much love in Chilean Patagonia.
